Special Days

There is nothing like a special calendar day to create lessons or units of work around a theme. The obvious ones are Arbour Day, Internet Safer Day, Computer Science Week, or World Bee Day. One of my favourites is May the 4th be With You Day. The students respond to these days with great interest whether for social justice reasons or for fun - although they thrive in routine; they also like things to be spiced up a bit from time to time! Sometimes a word during registration; sometimes, a quote to use as a starter, sometimes an image or an animated GIF.

An example of a themed lesson for May the 4th.
